OPEN THE GATES
On arrival
Find the guide matching the insect on your product listing. Feeder sizes and counts vary by selected option, so confirm those details before planning your housing. Unpack into a prepared setup and inspect the actual life stage received.
BUILD THE REFUGE
A secure holding setup
Use each species guide instead of a universal insect tub. Fine ventilation, a secure lid, enough space, and access for cleaning are shared goals; the bedding, food, and moisture method differ between feeders.
KEEP A STEADY WATCH
Temperature & placement
Read the individual guide before cooling or heating a batch. Mealworm storage, superworm holding, waxworm storage, and fruit-fly production use different routines. Direct sunlight and unregulated heat can quickly overheat small containers.
PROVISION THE COLONY
Food & hydration
Offer the feeder its appropriate diet, then match prey size and supplementation to the pet. Silkworm and hornworm foods are specialized; dry-grain cultures and fruit-fly media also serve different purposes. An assortment gives choice, not one preparation method.
THE DAILY WATCH
Care between feedings
Keep containers labeled, check them daily, remove spoiled food and dead insects, and plan the order around what you can house and feed properly. For starter cultures, establish a backup before harvesting heavily. Never release unwanted feeder insects outdoors.
AVOID THE COMMON TRAPS
Mistakes worth preventing
- Using a common name as a substitute for checking the listing.
- Copying one species’ storage method to every feeder.
- Keeping more stock than the available housing can support.
