OPEN THE GATES
On arrival
Prepare a smooth-sided holding container with dry bran before transferring the larvae. Give the order enough surface area, and offer a small moisture source after arrival. Inspect shipping material carefully so larvae are not discarded with it.
BUILD THE REFUGE
A secure holding setup
Use a secure, ventilated container and a suitable dry bran base. Keep the bed accessible for cleaning, and avoid a deep mass of tightly crowded larvae. Small portions of moisture food should sit where you can retrieve them easily rather than being buried in the bedding.
KEEP A STEADY WATCH
Temperature & placement
Hold superworms at a stable room temperature. Do not refrigerate them to copy a mealworm storage routine. Keep the container out of direct sun and away from cold drafts; supplemental heat should only be used with temperature measurement and proper control.
PROVISION THE COLONY
Food & hydration
Provide appropriate bran or superworm diet continuously. Offer small pieces of suitable fresh produce for moisture, then remove leftovers before they decay. Replace damp bedding promptly. Gut-load the selected feeding portion on a suitable diet before serving to the pet.

THE DAILY WATCH
Care between feedings
Remove dead insects and refresh dirty bedding as needed. For a breeding project, mature larvae are commonly separated individually to begin pupation; a crowded feeding tub is not a complete breeding setup. Protect pupae and newly emerged beetles from feeding larvae, and label each life-stage container.
AVOID THE COMMON TRAPS
Mistakes worth preventing
- Putting superworms in the refrigerator.
- Confusing adult beetles with the larvae ordered for feeding.
- Leaving a damp produce layer across the whole container.
