✦ THE KEEPER’S ROYAL CHRONICLES ✦

Blue bottle fly larvae

Blue Bottle Fly Spikes

Manage a short feeder rotation and plan ahead for pupation instead of treating every fly larva as the same insect.

OPEN THE GATES

On arrival

Inspect the larvae and retain the suitable supplied holding medium. Keep the container closed except for controlled feeding and checks. Confirm the actual listing rather than substituting black soldier fly larva instructions.

BUILD THE REFUGE

A secure holding setup

Use a secure container with ventilation fine enough to retain the animals and prevent escaping adults later. Keep the holding cup away from direct sun and household food. Do not place live larvae in an open dish while preparing another enclosure.

KEEP A STEADY WATCH

Temperature & placement

Follow the storage instructions provided for the batch. Short-term holding and deliberately raising adult flies are different projects. If cooling is specified, measure the storage temperature rather than assuming every refrigerator setting is suitable.

PROVISION THE COLONY

Food & hydration

A purchased feeder batch is not a request to start a decomposing-meat culture. Do not add household waste or liquids to the holding cup. Remove only the portion you can offer promptly, and follow your pet’s usual species-specific feeding and supplement plan.

THE DAILY WATCH

Care between feedings

Inspect for dead larvae, excess wetness, and changes toward pupation. Pupae and adult flies require different handling and containment. Order a practical quantity for your feeding schedule and contact keeper support if the shipment stage does not match the listing.

AVOID THE COMMON TRAPS

Mistakes worth preventing

  • Using black soldier fly larvae care just because both are maggots.
  • Leaving pupating stock in an adult-escape-prone container.
  • Adding raw meat or scraps to the feeder cup.

Care guide to the right products

Return to the listing for the current options, quantity, price, and availability. This guide does not change what is included in an order.

ASK THE KEEPERS

Before the next feeding

Will they remain larvae indefinitely?

No. These are a fly’s immature stage and can pupate as development continues.

Can I use a fruit-fly culture recipe?

No. Blue bottle fly spikes develop into pupae and then larger adult flies; they do not reproduce in the same prepared medium used for Drosophila fruit flies. A cup of spikes is a batch of immature feeders, not a self-renewing fruit-fly culture.
