Trade-Name & Provisional Tarantula Care Essentials

A trade name, locality label or 'sp.' entry is useful for tracking stock, but it does not by itself establish a described species or a complete care profile.

Theraphosinae sp Colombia – Colombian Crowned Tarantula — representative animal for this care guide
Featured animalTheraphosinae sp Colombia – Colombian Crowned Tarantula
Representative catalog photo; follow the notes for your animal.
Care confirmation needed. This page gives containment and care-planning guidance. The animals listed here do not share a verified, universal climate recipe. Confirm the actual stock requirements before acquisition.

Enclosure & shelter

Ask for the breeder's established enclosure type and observed retreat behavior before choosing a ground, deep-burrow or tree-dwelling setup. Keep the full trade label and supplier provenance in your records. Do not silently replace an unidentified animal with a similar-looking described species.

Water, moisture & temperature

Confirm the successful temperature and substrate-moisture regime for the actual stock. A country name, blue coloration or word such as 'earth tiger' is not enough to justify exact temperature or humidity numbers.

Feeding & molting

Use appropriately sized captive-bred insects, safe water access and low-disturbance maintenance after the stock's basic housing needs are confirmed. Old World or otherwise uncertain stock requires conservative, hands-off care.

Trade-Name Stock Notes & Care Confirmation

These entries preserve the full stock labels. They are care-planning notes, not verified species-specific climate profiles. Obtain the established keeper conditions before acquisition; related-species care and locality names do not independently establish exact targets.

Keeper FAQs

Does 'sp.' mean a new species has been described?

No. It indicates an unspecified species in the stated group.

Can I follow a related species' guide exactly?

Related-species guidance can inform questions, but it does not verify identical requirements.

Do color forms need identical care?

A documented color form may share a species' core care. A trade-name resemblance alone does not prove that relationship.

What records should I keep?

The complete stock label, supplier, acquisition date, claimed locality, molt dates and the care conditions actually used successfully.

Everyday care checks

Check containment, drinking access and the animal's condition each day. Use captive-bred feeder insects appropriate to its size, remove leftovers and keep a record of feeding, molts and enclosure changes. Separate new arrivals from established animals and keep specimens individually as the default.

Keep pesticide sprays, scented cleaners and treated furnishings away from enclosures. Avoid direct sun and uncontrolled heat. A thermometer measures temperature; a humidity reading cannot tell you whether a burrow is dry, saturated or structurally stable.

Observe without handling. Do not force open sealed retreats or disturb a molting animal. Persistent weakness, injury or an unsuccessful molt needs experienced veterinary assessment rather than repeated improvised changes.

These guides explain care principles and important exceptions. A listing name does not independently identify a specimen, and related animals can need different conditions. For uncertain stock, ask Isopod King for its established care and provenance before choosing equipment.
