Natural Habitat & Behavior

In their native Darien region of Panama, Sericopelma sp Darien inhabit tropical rainforests where they create deep burrows or occupy existing crevices in the forest floor. They are opportunistic burrowers and will modify their enclosure with webbing and substrate manipulation. This species is generally more docile than many other large terrestrial tarantulas, though they can be defensive when threatened. They are good feeders with healthy appetites and will readily take down appropriately sized prey items.

Care Requirements

• Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with at least 4-5 inches of substrate for burrowing; provide a hide or cork bark
• Temperature: 75-82°F with slight nighttime drop acceptable
• Humidity: 70-80% with good ventilation to prevent mold
• Feeding: Crickets, roaches, or appropriately sized insects once or twice weekly
