Wolf Spider Care Essentials
Wolf spiders are ground-hunting spiders. A floor-oriented enclosure and a secure retreat are more useful than a tall display with little usable ground.

Representative catalog photo; follow the notes for your animal.
Enclosure & shelter
Use a secure, ventilated enclosure with open hunting space, pesticide-free substrate and sheltered cover. For burrowing Geolycosa, provide a substantially deeper, cohesive soil profile and a starting depression. Do not repeatedly excavate an established burrow.
Water, moisture & temperature
Provide an accessible shallow water source and monitor substrate conditions. A wetland-associated stock should not be given an arid setup simply because another wolf spider tolerates drier ground. Confirm locality and the supplier's established conditions for uncommon stock.
Feeding & molting
Offer suitably sized captive-bred insects near dusk. Remove uneaten feeders. Wild-caught females can already be mated; keep them individually and plan for a possible egg sac without deliberately disturbing the female.

Keeper FAQs
Does Rabidosa rabida carry rabies?
No. The common name 'rabid wolf spider' describes the animal's name, not an ability to transmit rabies.
Why does the female have a ball attached behind her?
Female wolf spiders carry their egg sac at the spinnerets and may later carry young on their back. Do not pull the sac or young away.
Why does a burrowing wolf spider stay underground?
A concealed retreat can be normal. Judge condition through feeding, molts and safe observations rather than digging it out.
Will it make a prey-catching web?
Wolf spiders generally hunt rather than relying on a capture web. They still use silk for other functions.
Everyday care checks
Check containment, drinking access and the animal's condition each day. Use captive-bred feeder insects appropriate to its size, remove leftovers and keep a record of feeding, molts and enclosure changes. Separate new arrivals from established animals and keep specimens individually as the default.
Keep pesticide sprays, scented cleaners and treated furnishings away from enclosures. Avoid direct sun and uncontrolled heat. A thermometer measures temperature; a humidity reading cannot tell you whether a burrow is dry, saturated or structurally stable.
Observe without handling. Do not force open sealed retreats or disturb a molting animal. Persistent weakness, injury or an unsuccessful molt needs experienced veterinary assessment rather than repeated improvised changes.
These guides explain care principles and important exceptions. A listing name does not independently identify a specimen, and related animals can need different conditions. For uncertain stock, ask Isopod King for its established care and provenance before choosing equipment.
