New World Arboreal Tarantula Care Essentials
Arboreal tarantulas need usable climbing surfaces, protected retreats and reliable hydration. A tropical label does not mean stagnant, constantly wet housing.

Representative catalog photo; follow the notes for your animal.
Enclosure & shelter
Provide vertical cork, web anchors and a secure opening that allows safe maintenance around the retreat. Keep ventilation suitable for the species, with gaps small enough for the youngest animal. Typhochlaena needs attention to its bark-retreat behavior rather than an automatic large hollow-log setup. Bark-associated natural-history observations do not establish identical care or trapdoor construction for every species.
Water, moisture & temperature
Offer accessible drinking water and avoid soaking the entire enclosure. Pinktoe-type spiderlings require particularly careful hydration and air-exchange management. Psalmopoeus, Avicularia and Ybyrapora should not all receive one fixed humidity recipe.
Feeding & molting
Offer insects that the animal can capture safely; remove leftovers and avoid disturbing a closed molting retreat. Keep individually and plan transfers before opening the enclosure.

Typhochlaena curumim – Paraiba Jewel Tarantula

The described spelling is Typhochlaena curumim. Published records document bark-associated retreats; they do not validate identical care to T. seladonia or deliberate complete drying. Provide secure bark crevices, ventilation and reliable drinking access. Confirm hydration and temperature for this stock and life stage before acquisition; a trapdoor nickname is not proof of identical retreat construction across the genus.

Keeper FAQs
Why is a pinktoe not thriving in a wet enclosure?
Water availability and ventilation must work together. Constant wetness alone is not adequate husbandry.
Are all New World arboreals slow and gentle?
No. Psalmopoeus and other genera can be fast and defensive.
Should I tear down webbing to make feeding easier?
Avoid destroying a functional retreat. Choose a safer feeding access point.
Does M2 or M6 make a separate species?
No. M2 and M6 are stock or morphotype labels, not scientific species names. They do not establish a separate species or a different care regime by themselves. Keep the full original label with the animal's records so the line remains traceable.
Everyday care checks
Check containment, drinking access and the animal's condition each day. Use captive-bred feeder insects appropriate to its size, remove leftovers and keep a record of feeding, molts and enclosure changes. Separate new arrivals from established animals and keep specimens individually as the default.
Keep pesticide sprays, scented cleaners and treated furnishings away from enclosures. Avoid direct sun and uncontrolled heat. A thermometer measures temperature; a humidity reading cannot tell you whether a burrow is dry, saturated or structurally stable.
Observe without handling. Do not force open sealed retreats or disturb a molting animal. Persistent weakness, injury or an unsuccessful molt needs experienced veterinary assessment rather than repeated improvised changes.
These guides explain care principles and important exceptions. A listing name does not independently identify a specimen, and related animals can need different conditions. For uncertain stock, ask Isopod King for its established care and provenance before choosing equipment.
