Climate:

The species that started it all.

Wild Type isopods (Armadillidium vulgare) are the natural, unselected form of the common pillbug, a species so hardy it is found across much of the world. They tolerate a wide range of conditions but do best at 65 to 78F with humidity around 50 to 70%, with a calcium source available for strong shells. Few isopods establish and breed as reliably, making this an ideal starter culture or dedicated cleanup crew.

  • Extremely hardy and adaptable
  • Ideal first isopod for new keepers
  • Reliable breeder, builds a colony fast
  • An excellent, low-maintenance cleanup crew
