Elegant, jewel-toned, and breathtakingly rare — Euathlus truculentus ‘Hermosa’, the Chilean Emerald Beauty Tarantula, is one of the most exquisite dwarf tarantulas in the hobby. This exceptional New World terrestrial from the highlands of Chile displays a rich emerald-green iridescence over a deep, velvety body — a color combination that is virtually unmatched in the Euathlus genus. Hermosa means beautiful in Spanish, and this species lives up to its name in every way.

Why Choose Euathlus truculentus ‘Hermosa’?

• Jewel-Toned Emerald Coloration: Rich green iridescence over a deep velvety body — one of the most visually stunning color forms in the entire dwarf tarantula hobby
• Dwarf Species: Adults reach approximately 3–3.5" leg span, perfect for elegant compact display enclosures
• Docile Temperament: Calm and slow-moving — approachable and beginner-accessible despite its collector-grade rarity
• Room-Temperature Friendly: As a Chilean highland species, it thrives at standard household temperatures with no supplemental heating required
• Exceptionally Rare: The ‘Hermosa’ form of E. truculentus is among the most coveted dwarf tarantulas in captivity — a true gem for serious collectors

Natural History

Native to the temperate highlands of Chile, Euathlus truculentus ‘Hermosa’ inhabits cool, semi-arid environments where it shelters under rocks and in shallow burrows. Like other Chilean Euathlus, this species is adapted to cooler conditions and does not require the warm tropical temperatures typical of most tarantulas. Hardy and forgiving in captivity, it rewards patient keepers with a long-lived, brilliantly colored display animal of exceptional beauty.

Care Requirements

• Enclosure: Small terrestrial setup with 3–4 inches of substrate; provide a hide or cork bark retreat
• Temperature: 65–75°F — standard room temperature is ideal; no supplemental heating needed
• Humidity: Low to moderate; keep one side of the substrate slightly moist with a water dish always available
• Diet: Appropriately sized feeders (small crickets or roaches) offered weekly; adjust prey size to the specimen’s compact frame
• Temperament: Docile and slow-moving — suitable for beginners and experienced keepers alike

What to Expect

Your Euathlus truculentus ‘Hermosa’ will arrive healthy and ready to settle into its new enclosure. This species is a deliberate, unhurried explorer that will make use of hides and may produce light surface webbing.
