CARE AT A GLANCE

A stripe that stands out. Porcellio laevis Milkback isopods carry a pale, milky stripe running down the back of an otherwise dark body, a distinctive marker within the hardy laevis species. Originally from Europe and North Africa and now established worldwide, laevis remains one of the easiest large isopods to keep.

They do well with medium moisture and plenty of calcium available, comfortable across 65 to 80F and 55 to 75% humidity. Adults reach 15 to 20mm, and the milkback stripe makes individuals easy to pick out even in a large colony.

  • Distinctive pale Milkback stripe
  • Large, hardy laevis body type
  • Comfortable across a wide temperature and humidity range
  • Easy to spot and beginner-friendly
