CARE AT A GLANCE

Keeper level:
intermediate
Climate:
Temperate

Big for its genus. The Balkan Giant (Trachelipus sp.) is a large bodied isopod native to the Balkans, notably bigger than most Trachelipus kept in the hobby. Its size makes it easy to spot moving through leaf litter and substrate.

This is a temperate species comfortable with cooler conditions than tropical isopods. Keep the enclosure around 65 to 75F and 55 to 75% humidity, with moderate moisture and regular calcium supplementation.

  • Notably larger than typical Trachelipus species
  • Comfortable in cooler, temperate room conditions
  • Hardy and easy to spot moving through the substrate
  • An interesting genus for Keepers looking beyond Porcellio and Armadillidium

Covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee.
