If you took a centipede and set it on fire — and somehow the fire stayed — it would look like this. Scolopendra sp. ‘Sulawesi Flame’ from the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia is a full-spectrum fire centipede: deep reds, burning oranges, and vivid yellows all present across the body in a blazing, shifting palette that earns the name “Flame” in every possible way. This is not one fire color. It is all of them — layered, saturated, and alive.

There is no centipede in the hobby that looks more like a living flame than this one.

Why Collectors Love This Species

• Full fire palette — red, orange, and yellow all present across the body; the complete spectrum of fire colors in a single animal, shifting and blending like an actual flame
• Saturated, vivid coloration — the fire colors are rich and intense, not washed out or subtle; this centipede is as bold in person as it looks in photos — and bolder
• Sulawesi locality — native to Sulawesi, Indonesia; a geographically distinct and highly desirable island provenance
• Extreme rarity — among the most visually spectacular and rarely available centipedes in the US hobby; a genuine trophy specimen
• Impressive size — a large, robust Scolopendra with commanding enclosure presence
• The name says it all — “Sulawesi Flame” is not hyperbole; it is an accurate description of exactly what this animal looks like

Care Overview

• Origin: Old World — Sulawesi, Indonesia
• Enclosure: Secure terrestrial setup with escape-proof lid; deep substrate (5–7") with cork bark or flat rock hides
• Temperature: 76–86°F
• Humidity: Moderate to high — 70–80%; keep one side of substrate slightly moist
• Diet: Large crickets, roaches, and other appropriately sized prey; aggressive and powerful feeder
• Venom: ⚠️ Like all large Old World Scolopendra, this species possesses medically significant venom. Bites are extremely painful and can cause intense localized pain, severe swelling, and systemic symptoms. Never handle — use long tongs for all maintenance without exception.
• Experience Level: Advanced — for experienced invertebrate keepers only
