Natural History

Native to South America, Eupalaestrus larae is a terrestrial species that inhabits grasslands and scrubland environments where it shelters in burrows and under ground cover. A close relative of the well-known Eupalaestrus campestratus (Pink Zebra Beauty), E. larae shares the genus’s hallmark docility and hardiness while offering its own distinctive golden coloration. Captive specimens are forgiving, adaptable, and ideal for keepers who appreciate calm, display-quality animals.

Care Requirements

• Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with 4–5 inches of substrate; provide a hide or cork bark retreat
• Temperature: 72–80°F; standard room temperature is typically suitable
• Humidity: Moderate (60–70%); keep one side of the substrate slightly moist with a water dish always available
• Diet: Crickets, roaches, or appropriately sized feeders offered weekly; note this species may fast for extended periods — this is normal
• Temperament: Exceptionally docile and slow-moving — suitable for beginners and experienced keepers alike
