Meet one of North America's most underrated desert scorpions. Chihuahuanus coahuilae, the Lesser Stripe Tail Scorpion, is a compact, hardy species native to the Chihuahuan Desert of northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. With its distinctively striped metasoma and earthy tan-to-brown coloration, this species is a natural showpiece for any arid vivarium setup.

Despite its intimidating desert origins, the Lesser Stripe Tail is a manageable species for intermediate keepers — active enough to be engaging, yet not overly defensive. It thrives in a dry, sandy enclosure with plenty of hides and minimal humidity, making it an excellent candidate for a naturalistic desert display.

Why Collectors Love This Species

  • Native North American species with fascinating natural history
  • Hardy and adaptable — ideal for arid vivarium builds
  • Compact size makes it easy to house and display
