Natural History

Native to the highland regions of Peru, T. ockerti inhabits cool, semi-arid environments where it shelters in burrows and under rocky outcroppings. This terrestrial species is well-adapted to cooler temperatures and appreciates a well-structured enclosure with ample substrate depth and a secure hide. Its striking flame-rump coloration is believed to serve as a warning display — making it as fascinating biologically as it is visually.

Care Requirements

• Enclosure: Terrestrial setup with 4–5 inches of substrate; provide a hide or cork bark retreat
• Temperature: 65–75°F — standard room temperature is ideal; no supplemental heating typically needed
• Humidity: Low to moderate; keep one side of the substrate slightly moist with a water dish always available
• Diet: Crickets, roaches, or appropriately sized feeders offered weekly
• Temperament: Docile and calm — suitable for intermediate keepers and confident beginners

What to Expect

Your Thrixopelma ockerti will arrive healthy and ready to settle into its new enclosure.
