This magnificent tarantula showcases intricate geometric patterns in shades of slate gray, cream, and distinctive reddish-brown hues that give the species its common name, creating a truly mesmerizing display that stands out among Poecilotheria species.

Why Choose Poecilotheria rufilata?

• Unique Coloration: Striking red-brown tones mixed with slate gray and cream patterns create a distinctive appearance

• Active Display Species: Frequently visible outside their retreat, offering excellent viewing opportunities
• Fast Growth Rate: Develops quickly from sling to adult, revealing stunning colors with each molt
• Sought-After Species: Less common than other Poecilotheria, making it a prized addition for collectors

Natural Habitat & Behavior

In their native southern Indian forests, Poecilotheria rufilata inhabit tree hollows, bark crevices, and occasionally human structures in tropical regions. They are skilled web builders, creating elaborate funnel retreats with extensive webbing. While they possess potent venom and can be defensive when threatened, they typically prefer to retreat rather than confront, displaying their incredible speed and agility as they navigate vertical surfaces with ease.

Care Requirements

• Enclosure: Tall vertical setup with minimum 12" height for adults; provide cork bark, hollow tubes, or artificial plants for webbing anchor points
• Temperature: 75-82°F with slight nighttime drop acceptable
• Humidity: 70-80% with excellent ventilation to prevent mold and respiratory issues
• Feeding: Crickets, roaches, or appropriately sized insects once or twice weekly
• Experience Level: Intermediate to advanced due to speed, potent venom, and defensive capabilities
