Few tarantulas command attention quite like the Chicken Spider (Pamphobeteus sp. 'Araña Pollito'). Named after the local legend that this giant birdeater is large enough to prey on small chicks, this species hails exclusively from the Madre de Dios region of southeastern Peru — a remote and biodiverse corner of the Amazon basin. With a massive legspan, bold coloration, and a personality that matches its size, this is a true centerpiece animal.

Why Collectors Love This Species

• Impressive size – One of the larger Pamphobeteus species, with females reaching 8"+ legspan
• Striking adult males – Males display vivid violet-purple iridescence, making them among the most beautiful tarantulas in the genus
• Robust and hardy – Tolerates a range of husbandry conditions; a forgiving species for experienced keepers
• Active and bold – Less prone to hiding than many large terrestrials; often visible and on display
• Legendary status – A bucket-list species for serious collectors and Pamphobeteus enthusiasts
